The Center for Cultural and Urban History intends to study historical developments within past urban societies as the outcome of a complex interplay between economic, cultural (religious), social and political processes. As a result, in several of the current research topics (sub)disciplinary boundaries are crossed. Current research themes comprise - among others - the study of medieval and sixteenth-century urban societies, the relationship between art, markets and the economy in early modern cities, the selling out of Antwerp art in the century 1650 - 1750, transpport price history, book history, reformation and republicanism in the sixteenth century, retailing and fashion developments (c. 16 - c. 18)
