Language and speech technology: e-learning modules to improve the intercultural dialogue

Id:UH_R-1283

Universiteit Hasselt

At first, the partnership of this LLP-Multilateral project wishes t make a contrastive study of the languages-cultures involved in TST-ID (Dutch, French, Slovak, Rumanian, Turkish). These data and a study of the A1-A2-levels of the CEFRL will be the basis for the development of electronic modules for language-culture learning to bring adult learners to learn other or even new European languages-cultures, that are less taught or are less known. The consortium will produce attractive, efficient and renewing material and services, easily accessible for a large public (also handicapped people as dyslexia and persons with eyesight). It will organise events to show the attractiviness of new languages-cultures and it hopes to open people's horizons. Besides big languages, the consortium will try to give to smaller languages a place in EU. In fact, the choice of the partner countries has been inspired by variety: an old EU-member (Belgium), a recent one (Slovakia), a very recent (Rumania), a futur one (Turkey); three religions (catholic, orthodox, moslim), four language families (German, Romance, Slavic, Turkish), four parts of EU (West, Central, East, South).
