The battle for the emigrants: the competition between the various emigration ports for the emigration trade from the European mainland to New York 1815-1914

Between 1815 and 1914 the mass emigration movement from Europe to the United States occured. The transport of these emigrants generated an important trade. The biggest European emigration ports, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Bremen, Hamburg, Liverpool and Le Havre tried to attract as many emigrants as possible. The study will subject the competition between the ports to a comparative analysis.
