The role of urban female domestic servants in the social diffuson of birth control on the countryside during the fertility transition (1830-1900)

The central question of this study is whether urban female domestic servants with rural origin have, by consequence of their close contacts with urban bourgeoisie, a different fertility behaviour than their contemporaries. The research makes use of life course data of three generations from two rural localities in the province of East-Flanders and it is conducted with advanced multivaried statistical techniques like event history analysis.
