The project wishes to map ancient patterns of human behaviour related to the consumption of food and drinks, implicitely or explicitely associated with the communication of social positioning. The study material of the project is tableware made in ceramics, glass, metals and other typesof material, produced or circulating in the eastern Mediterranean underRoman influence or governance, between the second century BC and the seventh century AD. The project wishes to surpass specific material and find categories and the associated academic specialisms. The project wishes to map the conceptual context of the typologies of tableware in use inthe Roman East, as well as the differentiated use of tableware in the study area.
