A new state-of-the-art motion capturing system for testing new emerging offshore and coastal engineering technologies in the new "Coastal & Ocean wave Basin (COB)" in Ostend (MARINERGI)

In view of the new EU Green Deal and the EU’s climate and clean energy ambition for 2030, we target the renewable ocean energy and offshore wind challenges. This is why the new Coastal & Ocean wave Basin (COB) in Belgium is integrated in MARINERG-i, a first step to an independent legal entity of internationally distributed testing infrastructures for Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE). MARINERG-i will strengthen scientific excellence, engineering expertise, investment and access to infrastructures in the field of ORE. Its combined facilities will foster innovation across offshore wind, wave, tidal and combined renewable energy technologies, through all key development stages. Recently, Flanders decided to support MARINERG-i in the ESFRI 2021 Roadmap call. The COB has a strategic role within MARINERG-i, due to its key technical characteristics, and due to the large number of stakeholders and facility end-users from academia, government and industry. This proposal will strengthen the COB’s position in the MARINERG-i network by responding to current and future ORE needs, by adding a highly accurate motion capturing system for floating structures to attract international facility users.
