Value and meaning of civil socio-cultural acting for society (SOCIUS)

Value and meaning of civil socio-cultural actorship for society

The central research question of this study is: What is the social value currently assigned to civil socio-cultural actorship in Flanders by the market, public authorities and civil society (outside the socio-cultural work itself)?

We divide this general research question into a number of more specific sub-questions. (1) What is a functional value framework for civil socio-cultural actorship? (2) What kind of relations do we identify in terms of the appreciation of civil socio-cultural actorship by civil society actors, market actors and state actors? (3) What values are assigned to the civil socio-cultural actors by market actors, public authorities and civil society organisations that are themselves outside the socio-cultural field?

We use a survey method to gain insight into the (types of) relationships that socio-cultural organisations already have with institutions outside the socio-cultural field (i.e. market, state-based and other civil society organisations). This is followed by a series of semi-structured individual or collective interviews.
