Project

Supporting communication through technology.

Connection and communication is what makes us human and gives meaning to people’s lives. The vision of my research group is to support communication of those who need it through technology. The main pillars are diagnostics, hearing devices and brain-computer interfaces. With diagnostics we aim to quickly and accurately detect hearing loss (screening) and precisely measure the cause and locus of hearing loss, preferably using objective methods that do not require the active participation of the patient. With hearing devices (smart hearing aids, cochlear implants, …) we aim to support communication of those with sensory deficits. With (auditory) brain-computer interfaces we aim to unlock communication of patients who cannot communicate otherwise and to control smart hearing devices using brain signals. Our research comprises the entire chain from fundamental curiosity-driven research towards applications in clinical practice, and eventually impact in society.
