Enhanced Robotic Deployment of Catheters and Guidewires (REMOTE)

REMOTE aims to redesign and upgrade an existing RACS (Robot-assisted catheterization system) to become a robot for CTO-PCI (Chronic total occlusion - Percutaneous coronary intervention, a minimally invasive procedure to clear completely or nearly completely blocked coronary arteries ). While haptics - even in a bad and diminished way - are essential, commercial systems don't provide haptic feedback. By providing this vital sensory information to levels that exceed the reliability of today's manual interventions, interventional cardiologists will be confident that they can work remotely, i.e. protected from the ionizing radiation used for visualization during the procedure.
