Leuven Chemistry, Catalysis and Chemical Technology Research Centre

Research Unit

Lifecycle:1 Jul 2009 →  Today
Organisation profile:

Research topics of this unit are:
Catalysis of organic reactions with heterogeneous, homogeneous or bio-catalysts. The focal points of the research are zeolites as catalysts, layered double hydroxides (LDHs) as catalysts, Metal-organic Frameworks (MOFs), nanoparticles of precious metals (Au, Pd, ...), Palladium, Osmium, Manganese, Tungsten and Molybdenum catalysts.
Important investigated reactions are oxidations: epoxidations, hydroxylations, alcohol oxidations, incorporation of carbon dioxide into organic molecules, dynamic kinetic resolution of alcohols and amines, selective hydrogenation of polyfunctional molecules, new routes in functionalization of aromatics via C-H activation.
Physicochemical characterization of heterogeneous catalysts, including surface titration with MS, FT-IR, ESR and fluorescence spectroscopy, ...
Analysis of organic components, with GC, GCMS, LCMS
Synthesis of organic compounds with biological activity
