Project

Prospective study of physical (in)activity, physical fitness and health related parameters of Flemish adults (2002-2006 à 2012-2015).

Following objectives and / or research questions are formulated in this project: The follow-up study of sedentary behavior, physical activity, sports participation, physical fitness and health in Flemish adults over the past 10 years; To investigate whether specific subgroups have higher risks for unhealthy behavior (inactivity, sedentary behavior, unhealthy diet, smoking) and to analyze the evolution in physical and mental health; To Identify what factors are related to (individual) changes in sports participation and sedentary behavior over the last 10 years; To investigate whether (individual) changes in lifestyle (physical activity, sedentary behavior, diet, alcohol consumption and smoking) are related to (individual) changes in physical and mental health. Which determinants can explain these relationships? To analyze if genetic risk profiles can explain the status of 10 years ago and the differences between individual changes over a 10-year period, for a number of fitness components and health related parameters The subjects who participated in the previous study (2002 -> 2006), will be contacted again. In the former study, both men and women of all age groups (18-75 years) from Flanders were included. A total of 1,300 participants were measured and tested. The measurements refer to a medical screening, a blood test, a questionnaire on physical activity and sedentary behavior, various health-related fitness tests, questionnaires on health and health behavior and DNA analysis.
