The diagnosis and outcome of chronic kidney disease in older persons.
Chronic kidney disease is a frequent and late diagnosed and therefore underestimated chronic disease. The method used to calculated or estimated the Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) is critical for a correct diagnose. The validation of the different formulas used to estimate this GFR inpeople 65 and over is insufficient for the moment. In this project the first step is performing a systematic search for all the previous studies in this domain.
Later we will search in a prospective cohort study for the most accurate estimation of the GFR compared to on e of the goldstandard in people 65 and over. We will investigate the role of aging and co-morbidity in the evolution of the kidney function and more specific in the evolution toward end stage kidney failure. By researchingthis we hope to obtain a better view on the natural history of the kidney function and on the subgroup of aged patients who have an increased risk to develop end stage kidney failure.
