Project

Development and validation of an automatic quality control system for a appel packing machine.

The final step in the packing of apples is a quality control of the apple and the placement of the apple in a consumer package. Until now this step has not been automated. This project will develop a quality control system that detects defects on the apple surface based on image processing. With this information the quality control system will label the apple with a quality score. KUL-MeBioS has experience in the quality control of fruit and will develop a measurement strategy to determine the quality score based on image processing. The Limburg Catholic University College (KHLim) -ACRO developed a fully automated machine to sort apples based on a patented orientation unit. The KHLim-ACRO will implement the quality control system in the machine such that the quality score can be determined within a machine cycle. With this information the machine can sort the apples based on the quality score.
