Preclinical assessment of the therapeutic potential of multitargeting cancer stem cells trough modulation of the unfolded protein response in hepatocellular carcinoma

This project will explore the potential of a new strategy to treat HCC. This strategy involves the combination of cytotoxic agents, which are currently applied in the clinic but in monotherapy insufficient tot provide long-lasting remission, with agents targeting the adaptive mechanisms of a recently identified tumour cells subpopulatin presumably responsable for chemoresistance and relapse. Ultimately, we aim to initiate a clinical trial in advanced HCC patients to extrapolate these findings.
