Systemic: functional approaches to discourse

This chapter discusses major strands in work on discourse which has been done within Systemic U+2013 Functional Linguistics (SFL). It does not attempt to give a complete survey neither of the literature nor of the different schools. Instead the focus is on showing how discourse analysis is embedded in the SFL view on language and its organisation, on looking at how it originated and developed, including present-day trends.
