Teachers’ Pedagogical Content Knowledge in an Ethnically Diverse Society
A crucial part of teacher preparation is equipping them with the necessary knowledge base. But currently, educational research lacks a tailored conceptualization and an assessment tool of teacher knowledge regarding ethnocultural diversity. This is a critical research challenge that this project will address by offering a novel conceptual framework which captures the general, pedagogical and subject-specific knowledge regarding ethnocultural diversity. An innovative assessment system will be developed and validated. This instruments goes beyond existing ones that use subjective self-reports. Using this assessment method, prospective teachers across different teacher education programs at the KU Leuven will be surveyed to measure their general, pedagogical and subject-specific knowledge.
