Isotope Geochemistry

Research Group

Lifecycle:1 Jan 1970 →  31 Dec 2001
Organisation profile:

The research unit Isotope Geochemistry (GISO) develops research mainly in stable isotope geochemistry. Fractionation processes affecting the light stable isotopes of H, C, N, O, and S provide a powerful tool to study geological and other environmental systems. GISO focuses on paleoclimatical and paleo-environmental research, on sedimentary and diagenetic processes, on stratigraphic and global change studies and on hydrological, biogeochemical and environmental monitoring. Other fields than natural sciences, such as medical, archaeological, forensic and material sciences also benefit from the specific instrumental analytical techniques (isotope ratio mass spectrometry). Besides these major research fields, attention is also devoted to Sr-isotope geochemistry and Rb-Sr geochronology and the trace element geochemistry in sedimentary systems.
