Project

predicting Europe forest soil biodiversity and its functioning under climate change

A main goal for SoilForEUROPE is to determine the relationships between tree species diversity and soil biodiversity, and their consequences for ecosystem functioning across major European forest types. Data on such linkages across different groups of organisms have been obtained in few studies in forests and have not been determined systematically across different biomes. However, if they exist, these linkages may help to predict and manage soil biodiversity based on the diversity and relative abundance of tree species. This would provide a readily, applicable management tool for foresters and forestry stakeholders.
