Organisation profile:Origination The Centre for Migration and Intercultural Studies (CeMIS) was founded in 2005 at the University of Antwerp, on the initiative of researchers who were grouped within the Antwerp Center for Migrant Studies (ACMS), an interdisciplinary and open forum for researchers, policy and society. With this CeMIS builds upon existing research tradition within the University with regard to migration and intercultural studies. Mission CeMIS aims to bring together the research expertise from various disciplines to investigate better the complexity of migration and the intercultural coexistence. The center will provide insights on the impact of migration and intercultural processes in everyday life in a globalized and diverse society. CeMIS pursues this social objective by means of interdisciplinary basic and applied scientific research and academic training, more specifically within the lines of research (1) international migration, (2) integration and social cohesion and (3) migration and development. Additionally CeMIS offers an open and pluralistic platform where various actors such as universities, governments and civil society, can contact each other with a view to developing and acquiring science-based and policy-relevant insights on migration and integration theme in dialogue. CeMIS specifically focuses on the academic community of the University Association Antwerp, national and international researchers in the field of migration and intercultural studies, policy makers and civil society organizations.
