Developing countries have been suffering the most of uncontrollable waste dumping where current waste management systems are neither efficient nor sufficient. This paper discusses and presents a milestone in the design and operation of a sustainable waste management system for cities in developing economies wishing to improve their waste management practices. It discusses the fundamental process steps for the development of a strategic plan for waste management system integrating sustainability in its design and operations.
