Pilot project permanent chat / telephone line around sexual violence

Sexual violence is a public health problem on a global scale that also affects many people in Belgium. For example, in its 2013 report, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that 25.4% of women and girls from the WHO European region experience sexual violence from (ex-) partners and 5.2% by non-partners1. The prevalence of sexual violence against men in Europe is estimated at between 1-7%. For Belgium, a European study from 2015 showed that 10.1% of young men and 20.4% of young women became victims of sexual violence at least once since the legal age to consent to sex3. For Flanders, the 2012 Sexpert study found that 16.6% of young people under 18 had sexual violence (22.3% of girls -10.7% of boys) and 8.1% of adults (13.8% women) -2.4% men) 4. Research from ICRH-UGent showed that female and male migrants of all ages are even more vulnerable to sexual violence and recorded percentages of 56.6% in Belgium and the Netherlands.
