Online Proctoring for Remote Examination (R-9359)

In recent years, the offerings of open and online education in Europe have grown rapidly. In order to issue valid achievement certificates or degrees it is in many cases necessary to administer test and exams under proctored (invigilated) conditions. The traditional forms of testing in a test center or at an institution of higher education is not very efficient, is expensive for both the student as the institution and a such hinders access and progress in higher education. Online remote proctored examination (for example of students taking exams at home) is an innovation that has the possibility to provide an answer to this challenge. In this project, six institution of higher education in Europe and a technology service provider collaborate in a project to establish guidelines and rules on how online remote examination can offer a secured procedure for examination. The project studies amongst others security and privacy aspects, practical procedures, protocols, student experiences and comparability of test results. Through their collaboration, these aspects are studied at a European level, harmonized and confirmed. This will strengthen the transnational acknowledgement of acquired competencies and improves access and flow of European students to and through higher education. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is the overall coordinator of this KA2 Strategic Partnership Erasmus+ project. The other parties collaborating in this project are RISBO of the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (Nl), Fontys hogescholen (Nl), Wilhelm Büchner University of Applied Science Darmstadt (Ge), Hertfordshire University (Eng), Universiteit Hasselt (Be), Fédération Interuniversitaire de l'Enseignement à Distance (Fr) and ProctorExam (Nl).
