Quality of palliative care in primary care (FWOKN256)

As part of my pre and postdoctoral FWO fellowship I coordinated the Belgian SENTI-MELC study and international EUROSENTI-MELC study (2005-2010) describing the circumstances of dying in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy, using representative GP networks. In 2013-2014, the EUROSENTI-MELC study will be continued focusing on the development and testing of quality indicators to measure palliative care in primary care, nationally and internationally. Based on previous work of the End-of-Life Care Research Group concerning the development of a generic test set of quality indicators for palliative care, we will develop, test and improve quality indicators for primary palliative care and use them to evaluate and compare the quality of primary care of different countries in Europe. This grant application searches the necessary additional funding for the continuation of the EURO sentimelc study in 2013. While the content of the new registrations will be worked out as part of my postdoctoral fellowship, additional costs are needed to ensure that all partners will continue to participate.
