Alkaline pre- or in-situ treatment: influence on the microbial activity and biomethane yield of anaerobic digestion

The topic of the PhD work will be “Alkaline pre- or in-situ treatment: influence on the microbial activity and biomethane yield of anaerobic digestion”. The expected study covers a period of 4 years from 2018 to 2022. Your PhD will be supervised by Prof. Dr. ir. Lise Appels (KU Leuven, Department of Chemical Engineering) and Prof. Dr. ir. Raf Dewil (KU Leuven, Department of Chemical Engineering). You will carry out research on the anaerobic digestion of organic waste streams using a novel type of in-situ alkaline treatment. This treatment will increase the biogas production potential of organic waste streams such as kitchen waste.
