Assessment of effects after unintended exposure to cytostatic drugs

An increase in cancer cases led to an increase in chemotherapy, including treatment with cytostatic drugs. Cytostatic drugs are designed to damage and kill cancer cells, however they also affect healthy cells. This in turn has shown to cause unwanted effects in patients receiving chemotherapy, healthcare workers (pharmacists, physicians, nurses). However, there is a knowledge gap regarding unintended exposure of children exposed to chemotherapy during pregnancy and family members of patients receiving chemotherapy. Because of this, the aim of this project is to measure the exposure to cytostatic drugs used in chemotherapy in these two groups and link this exposure to the potential genetic and epigenetic effects.
