New Testament in Translation

The 'New Testament in Translation' project investigates the phenomenon of translations in and of the New Testament texts from a papyrological, text-critical and exegetical perspective.Papyrologically the project aims to deepen the understanding of the socio-historical background of translations by comparing relevant New Testament passages with ancient everyday situations of translations as preserved in documentary papyri. Text-critically the project investigates ancient translations of the New Testament and examines the place of these early versions in a Living Text tradition. Exegetically the project looks at individual New Testament passages which include or refer to translations and applies the papyrological and text-critical findings in its theological interpretation. The overall aim of the project is a historically and hermeneutically improved understanding of translations in and of the New Testament.
