Development and evaluation of a multi-component program for the implementation of an evidence based practice guideline to reduce restraint use in home care

The primary objective of this project is to develop and evaluate a multi-component program for the implementation of an evidence based practice guideline to reduce the use of physical restraints in home care. In the longer term the multicomponent program aims to support health-care professionals in reducing the use of restraints in home care and so providing quality care for vulnerable older people with an increased risk of restraint use. The project consists of three phases: (1) development of a multi-component program for the implementation of the practice guideline based on a literature review and a qualitative focus group study (in collaboration with an interdisciplinary group of researchers and field experts), (2) implementation of the multi-component program in one region in Flanders (in collaboration with all home care actors) and (3) the evaluation of the implementation process, including the perceived barriers and facilitators in their efforts to reduce restraint use in home care.
