Von Neumann algebras, ergodic theory and boundary actions

Von Neumann algebras are abstract mathematical structures that arise naturally in different areas of mathematics, including analysis, group theory, ergodic theory and geometry. They are part of functional analysis, which also is the branch of mathematics providing the foundations for quantum information theory. This project focuses on the von Neumann algebras associated with different types of symmetries, including Bernoulli actions of discrete groups and actions of groupoids. The overall goal is to establish classification theorems for natural families of von Neumann algebras, revealing unexpected connections between different branches of mathematics.
