Project

Including the excluded. Towards a better understanding of the access to the state for people experiencing homelessness in Belgium.

In this project we focus on the trajectories of homeless persons, on the extent of non-take up (NTU) of social assistance benefits by homeless people, and on policies and levers to combat NTU. The three interrelated research questions are: 1) what are the trajectories of homeless persons over time?, 2) what is the extent of NTU of social assistance benefits amongst homeless persons?, and 3) which impact have social workers of different public and non-profit social services on the take up of social rights of homeless persons? These questions will be answered by using a more dynamic, intersectional and mixed methods approach on homelessness. Lastly, this project builds on the main conclusions and recommendations of MEHOBEL (Measuring homelessness in Belgium).
