Descriptive international comparative research on evolutions and innovations in local representative democracy

This assignment for a descriptive international comparative research on Flemish local democracy with a primary focus on a comparative description of evolutions in and innovations of local representative democracy, with specific attention to how representative democracy relates to innovative participatory elements such as the 'right to challenge ', the development of' online 'or' digital 'democracy, etc.

Two research questions are central: 1) evolutions: how has local representative democracy evolved in Flanders and how does this development relate to local representative democracy in other regions? And 2) innovations: which innovations of local representative democracy in other regions may inspire Flanders?
