Project

An in vitro system for the testing of cardiovascular medical devices

Medical devices are characterized by a constant flow of innovations which entails a product’s lifecycle of 18-24 months before another improved product becomes available. The validation process of a novel medical product leads to long waiting time and high costs. Moreover, a large number of in vivo experiments are always required before clinical testing, posing ethical issues. In this scenario, simulation plays an increasing role in reducing the burden related to these testing and verification processes. Aim of this project is to develop a sophisticated in vitro system for the testing of diagnostic imaging tools. The in vitro system will have 3D printed models of anatomical sites, connected and activated by a cardiovascular simulator. The system will be compatible with diagnostic imaging techniques and will work as a test bench for their technical validation and verification.
