Towards understanding of proprioceptive information processing with 3D wiring diagram.

Acute disconnection and degeneration of neuronal circuits after traumatic brain injury (TBI) leads to onset of severe motor, sensory and cognitive dysfunctions. Although remarkable anatomical  and functional recovery can take place after the injury, little is known how connections between neurons are broken and re-established nor the identify of neurons that can contribute to recovery. We combine mouse genetics, advanced rabies-based monosynaptic tracing approaches, unbiased threedimensional kinematic analysis, optogenetics and optically-identified single unit electrophysiology to unravel the neuronal basis of how somatosensory information processing contributes to motor recovery after TBI.
