Development of sequence-defined conjugated polymers

Although sequence-defined polymers are growing exponentially worldwide, this principle has never been applied to conjugated polymers. This is all the more remarkable because conjugated polymers possess properties that are completely lacking in their non-conjugated analogues. In this project, AB- and CD-functionalized monomers will be developed in which the B- and the C- and the D- and the A- functions react selectively with each other. This orthogonal method in combination with sequential monomer addition allows perfect control of the molecular structure. These perfectly defined macromolecules will be used to further enhance the previously observed high non-linear optical activity.
