Project

Additional application possibilities for timber frame structures through development and implementation of new insights into the mechanical behaviour of timber frame walls (R-11096)

The goal of this TETRA project is to gain a better understanding of the mechanical behavior of modern and novel timber frame structures. This is achieved by the development and dissemination of practical design tools which can be directly implemented in timber frame companies and design offices. The target group of this project consists of (1) timber frame contractors and producers of timber frame construction materials (including producers of sheathing materials), (2) design offices, and (3) developers of design software. In particular this project focuses on the mechanical behavior of timber frame walls, since they provide racking resistance and thus horizontal stability in timber frame structures. The tools will be adapted to the upcoming new standard (Eurocode 5) and the Flemish building practice.
