Holistic Co-Design and Integration in Power Electronic Converters for High Power Density Applications (CoDICApp)

Power electronics have become a ubiquitous technology widely present in many applications. At the same time, power electronics converters are undergoing some disruptive changes. These game changers had allowed converters to switch much faster, which in theory leads to much more compact circuits due to smaller passives (capacitors, inductors). Nevertheless, in practice, downsizing of passive components and interaction with semiconductors and control/processing devices are still a challenge. These challenges become more important in applications where extremely high power density and reliability. Consequently, totally different approaches are required to obtain highly compact power converters with high reliability and outstanding operation. The goal of this project is therefore to combine disruptive approaches at all levels of power electronics design, circuit integration, and processing architectures to achieve breakthroughs in the holistic co-design and integration of power converters capable of delivering flexibility, a variable voltage ratio, and a target volume reduction factor of at least 2 compared to the latest generation PCB solution.
