BIODEX® isometric/isokinetic muscle strength dynamometer (R-10096)

Muscle mass and strength are important indicators of physical function. Scientifically, it is very often used to evaluate the effects of exercise therapy and the pharmacological treatment of a wide range of chronic diseases and aging. Here, qualitative functional muscle strength evaluation requires isometric/isokinetic dynamometry (golden standard). The research and services activities of the exercise physiology laboratories of prof. Bert Op 't Eijnde, amongst others, involve skeletal muscle contractile property experiments related to human performance and the effects of exercise therapy in various chronic diseases such as MS, heart failure, insulin resistance/diabetes and obesity. In various starting and ongoing BIOMED research projects (happy aging, IL15 & aging project) related to aging and in the GYM (UM/UH, prof. Bert Smeets) project related to muscle stem cell therapy muscle strength evaluation is an important outcome parameter used to quantify therapy effects and functional capacity. Furthermore, it is important to note that future activities of Rejuvenate, a company that focusses on aging research will also require muscle strength evaluation. Finally, an isometric/isokinetic dynamometer further expands the services range of the ADLON sports medical center. As such, isometric/isokinetic muscle dynamometry expands the BIOMED research facilities and is / will be used by various research groups.
