The aim of the genebank is to represent the widest possible range of diversity and make it available for use in the most cost-effective way.

i)The banana gene pool is cost-effectively conserved in perpetuity. ii)The genetic diversity covered by the collection is expanded, characterised and rationalised.iii)The global system for the safe exchange of germplasm is strengthened and use of genetic diversity is maximised.
