Joint investigation by VUB (service support for student athletes) and the ULB (Ecole des Sports) to the combination of study and elite sport in colleges and universities of the Dutch-and French-speaking higher education in Brussels (BRGEOZ317)

Promising athletes and top athletes who combine their sport with higher education experience challenges in the sporting, academic, social, psychological and financial domains (De Brandt, Wylleman & Van Rossem, 2015). In order to give maximum support and support to these 'top-class sport students' through the combination of study and top-level sport, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) started its central academic department Top Sport and Study in 1987-1988. The Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) has also provided guidance to promising athletes and top athletes through its 'Service ULB Sports' for more than 20 years. In this way, both universities in the Brussels Capital Region form a concrete, active and positive attraction for promising athletes and elite athletes who wish to combine their top sport with higher education in the Brussels-Capital Region.
