Top sport and higher education in the Brussels-Capital Region (BRGEOZ293)

Promising athletes and top athletes who combine their sport with higher education experience challenges in the sporting, academic, social, psychological and financial domain (De Brandt, Wylleman & Van Rossem, 2015). In order to provide maximum support and guidance to these 'top sport students' through the combination of study and top sport, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) started its central academic service Top Sport and Study in 1987-1988. The Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) has also been providing guidance to promising athletes and top athletes for more than twenty years through its "Service ULB Sports". In this way, both universities in the Brussels-Capital Region form a concrete, active and positive attraction pool for promising athletes and top athletes who wish to combine their top-level sport with higher education in the Brussels-Capital Region. The 'top-level sport and study'-friendly climate of the Brussels Capital Region To further develop and make known the Brussels-Capital Region and to profile the Region even more as a top-class sport region, there is a clear need for the colleges and universities in the Brussels-Capital Region to come to effective and efficient guidance for their top athletes students.
