Hydrogeological, Hydrogeophysical and Hydrochemical Characterization of the Dupi Tila Sandstone Aquifer System in Dhaka City and Adjacent Areas for Sustainable Groundwater Management.

Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has been suffering a very sharp groundwater level (GWL) decline for the last three decades. Unplanned and rapid urbanization coupled with exponential population growth significantly altered the groundwater dynamics in this city. About 12 million people live in Dhaka and are exclusively depending on groundwater from the fluvio-deltaic sands of Dupi Tila Formation. The understanding of hydrodynamics, as well as the characterization of hydrochemistry of this aquifer, are significantly important for long term sustainable development of the groundwater resources of this city.
