Ionic liquids for heating and cooling

In this doctoral project, we will synthesize certain ionic liquids, and study their physical and electrochemical properties. The desired ionic liquids will be prepared by the combination of Brønsted bases and acids at various molar ratios. The physicochemical properties of the synthesized ionic liquids, such as crystal structure, thermal properties and ionic conductivity, will be investigated by single crystal and powder XRD, TGA, FTIR and DSC. Based on thermal measurements, we will further study the impact of impurities on the thermal transport properties of the ionic liquids, and optimize the synthesis of these ionic liquids as new heat transfer fluids.
