Effectiveness of community-based physical training for people with stroke in Benin. (R-11949)

Objective: to develop a community-based physical activity program for stroke survivors in Benin and to evaluate its effects on impairments, activity limitations, restrictions in participation and quality of life. Methodology: This doctoral research project involves four studies: (1) the first study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of a content and effectiveness of community-based rehabilitation on quality of life in stroke survivors. It will be limited to CTs published in the English or French language from the earliest date available to December 15th, 2020. (2) the second study is a cross-sectional study on the physical activity participation in community dwelling stroke survivors in Benin: synergy between motivation and modern technologies. Participants in the study will be recruited in university hospital at Parakou (Benin). A mixed methods design will be used to collect data to the chronic patients. (3) the third study will be a pilot study on the feasibility and effects of a 12-week community-based program using the WalkWithMe application on walking performance, and quality of life in stroke survivors in Benin. The experimental intervention will consist in individualized training in 12 weeks, 3 sessions per week and the time per session will be individual based on first session. (4) the last study will be a longitudinal single-blind, randomized, controlled trial on the effectiveness of a WalkWithMe app program group and a community-based physical activity group on stroke patients functioning. The experimental intervention will be designed based on the outcomes of the pilot study and the literature review while the control intervention will be an usual care.
