Preparation of polymer-based membranes using phase inversion

Using the technique of phase inversion, polymer-based membranes will be prepared. Their morphology-preparation-performance link will be studied fundamentally and their performance in pressure-driven liquid separation evaluated. Parameters will be systematically studied to realize these novel insights: polymer type, solvent concentration, use of additives with different polarity, evaporation times, coagulation bath compositions, post-treatments. In specific, the genesis of macrovoids and spongy structures will be evaluated using in-situ techniques and molecular probes.
