The role of machine perfusion for cardiac transplantation using donors after circulatory death.

Hearts donated after circulatory determination of death are usually preserved with normothermic machine perfusion prior to transplantation. With this type of preservation, the donor heart suffers from warm ischaemia, and correct evaluation of the heart function is not possible. Therefore, the search for other types of preservation started. There is a new possibility of using normothermic regional perfusion combined with cold storage. We would also like to explore the pathway of direct procurement with the use of cold machine perfusion. The main aim is to form and adjust the heart transplantation model.
