Enteric glial cells comprise a heterogeneous and plastic population of cells that are strategically located in all layers of the gut wall and are emerging as pivotal regulators of gut function. We investigate how enteric glial cells are involved in the formation and maintenance of enteric neuronal circuits and how dysregulation of enteric glia function contributes to the transition from gastrointestinal homeostasis to disease.
