Development of irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia after infection with COVID-19.

This study investigates the frequency of gastrointestinal complaints during acute infection with COVID-19. After a gastrointestinal infection approximately 10% of patients develop a post-infectious disorder like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or functional dyspepsia (FD). Since COVID-19 can present with these gastrointestinal complaints the hypothesis is that these patients have a higher chance on developing IBS or FD in the months following infection. Therefore we will follow patients for the duration of one year and evaluate the presence of symptoms at four different timepoints.
