Non-destructive insect infestation detection of pear fruits by X-ray imaging and deep learning.

X-ray imaging enables the non-destructive visualization and quantification of the internal structure of fruits and vegetables. Implementation of inline X-ray techniques to detect internal disorders, however, requires development of fast and accurate imaging, reconstruction and detection algorithms. The aim of this PhD is to develop and test flexible 2D and 3D systems that use advanced X-ray technology such as phase contrast imaging with multivariate and deep learning image processing algorithms for internal quality assessment of horticultural products.
