Histological healing in inflammatory bowel disease

Advances in the medical management of inflammatory bowel disease have altered therapeutic goals from symptomatic relief to clinical remission and endoscopic healing. Histological (microscopic) remission emerges as a potential novel target in IBD management in hope to achieve better long-term outcomes. Its role and significance needs to be further explored, especially in Crohn’s disease.
