Empowering the development of sustainable and healthy food products

Many sustainability and health challenges for the future are food-related. In the coming decade, the development of sustainable and healthy food products that (1) continue to satisfy the highest quality requirements, (2) are technically and economically feasible and (3) meet more and more the individual’s needs will thus undoubtedly be a major driver for product and process innovations in the food industry. The food industry is very important in Flanders, especially in West Flanders, and therefore food is one of the focus points in the policy plan of the province leading to several food related initiatives. To safeguard the strategic position of Association KU Leuven on the food topic in Western Flanders, VIVES (Center of Expertise in Agro- and Biotechnology) and KU Leuven (Food & Lipids and TQAP) want to team up to enhance their mutual cooperation on the one hand and with industrial partners on the other hand and jointly go the extra mile in developing sustainable and healthy food products. The scope of these collaborations includes the technological, quality-related aspects of developing sustainable and healthy food products.
