Support Centre for Standardised Assessment in Education (R-11663)

The extensive character of the development and implementation of standardised tests as a large-scale educational change in Flanders assumes that maximum use is made of the expertise present within the educational research institutes of the Flemish universities. Because of the expected social impact of centralized assessment in the Flemish educational context, a conscious choice was made to put together a consortium in which the five Flemish universities are represented, together with two university colleges. A broad consortium with a multifaceted and complementary expertise present among the partners involved should guarantee maximum professionalism in the execution of the various subtasks of this extensive assignment. The consortium of universities makes a conscious choice to include two university colleges in Flanders as partners, namely the AP University College in Antwerp and the Artevelde University College in Ghent. In addition to this complementarity of expertise, the collaboration between educational researchers from the five Flemish universities, together with two university colleges, is a like-minded expression of social commitment and the role that educational researchers take on in order to investigate complex issues of educational quality from a critical, academic stance and to make a lasting contribution to quality assurance and improvement in education.
